An immigration judge in March 2019 ordered Pineda-Echeverria to be deported from the U.S. He was returned to El Salvador in April of that year. Border Patrol in June 2022 arrested Pineda-Echeverria after he illegally reentered the U.S. near Rio Grande Valley, Texas. He was convicted in 2023 of illegal reentry after deportation and extradited to Virginia due to an active warrant for failing to appear for his felony trial, according to ICE.
Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in 2023 convicted Pineda-Echeverria of misdemeanor consensual sexual intercourse with a child. He was sentenced to three months and 10 days of incarceration.Fairfax County Adult Detention Center did not honor a detainer filed by ICE to hold the migrant while it weighed deportation, according to authorities. Special Response Team Enforcement and Removal Operations officers arrested Pineda-Echeverria in June. He remains in ICE custody.
“In addition to repeatedly disregarding American immigration laws, Geovany Alex Pineda-Echeverria also victimized a child in Virginia,” ERO Washington, D.C. Field Office Director Liana Castano said. “Pineda represented a significant threat to Virginia children, and we could not allow that to persist. ERO Washington, D.C. will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing the most egregious noncitizen offenders from our Washington, D.C. and Virginia communities.
