This is the second quantum data centre that IBM has deployed, and will be available via the cloud to the over 250 enterprises, governments and research institutions in the region.
The new IBM Quantum System 2 will consist of three 133-qbit tunable-coupler Heron processors, providing a modular utility-scale quantum computer. Each processor is capable of running 5 000 operations in a single quantum circuit. Since 2020, Germany has spent more than 2-billion Euros on quantum technology, Scholz says. “There is a lot of capacity and willingness to use these facilities for research.”
Dario Gill, senior vice-president of IBM, says the new data centre is part of IBM’s goal to accelerate its global quantum computing strategy. “We need to get algothms discovered that work for industries, and the only way we can do that is by getting quantum computing into the hands of people.”
