Iago Aspas will perhaps always be Celta's saviour, but his current poor goalscoring form is a real cause for concern
Four months on from a miraculous final-day escape, Celta Vigo find themselves in the relegation zone. Again. No side have clung to their La Liga status quite like the Galicians across their tumultuous 13-year run in the top flight. They have finished just one place above the drop zone on three separate occasions — avoiding relegation by a single point twice — with four top-half finishes sandwiched in between.
His previous record drought lasted 792 minutes on the pitch, back in August 2019. This one is approaching 1,700. More concerning still, the goalless streak has not materialised from any kind of tactical or stylistic change. Aspas, quite simply, is not taking his chances as well as he normally does.
