Reform UK's leader retreated to the beer garden to enjoy his pint
The Regent pub in Kirkby-in-Ashfield was enjoying a busy lunchtime service when its afternoon punters were taken aback by a dramatic arrival. Into this boozer, named after the former Regent cinema which opened on the site in 1930, entered Tuesday afternoon's showing - Nigel Farage.
The sheer number of journalists, politicians and security staff within the Farage entourage, coupled with the bizarre speed at which we all walked into The Regent, made it feel as though Reform UK was about to launch some sort of military coup against the pub's management.Instead, Mr Farage took 10 minutes or so to enjoy a beer - thought to be a pint of Carlsberg - with his Ashfield candidate, Lee Anderson.
The cameras were certainly unwelcome guests inside the pub, with a staff member berating Mr Farage and Mr Anderson for the chaos. The politicians argued that they had simply popped in for a drink, apparently surprised that all the journalists invited on a Nigel Farage visit had followed him in. It is not just Mr Farage facing challenges on the campaign trail though, with someone who was on their way into The Nags Head pub berating Mr Anderson during his walk through Kirkby with his party leader. The man asked Ashfield's incumbent MP why he couldn't have more "compassion" for those crossing the English Channel.
