With Halloween just around the corner, tourism writer Alex Smail headed to the pumpkin patch at Craigies Farm to see what it was like — here is what he got up to.

Halloween season is in full swing, and Scots all over the country are getting into the spirit of the spookiest holiday.

Autumn is easily my favourite season and, having never been to a pumpkin patch before, I was extremely hyped when I got on the bus from Edinburgh to Queensferry on Wednesday morning. Soon after, I was greeted by Craigies Farm owner John Sinclair, 55, who I was able to chat to for a little while over some coffee in the farm's gorgeous café that overlooks the pumpkin patch.

"Summertime has always traditionally been our busiest time, but I think October has actually overtaken it. Instagram moments, families creating memories, we're actually starting to see people coming back with their families after picking pumpkins with their parents as kids — that's something that gets me up in the morning.

While the tunnels weren't open during my visit, Euan kindly gave me a quick tour, and even at 9am it blew my mind. From the smoke machines to the vivid colours to the amazing decorations — I don't want to give away too much — I can imagine a walk through these after dark being incredible with friends or family.

After we had finished walking through the tunnels, Euan showed me around some of the other things on offer at Cragies — and I couldn't believe just how much there is to do. From indoor play areas to juicing experiences to animal feeds, there was a lot I didn't even get a chance to see. Before I left, I wanted to see what other people at Craigies thought of the patch, so I spoke with visitors Lilly, 34, and Catherine, 32, Bapty, who were in the middle of picking out their pumpkins.
