What those people have told him is at the centre of his leadership effort, and what he calls a consistent set of concerns he’s heard from around Alberta. Perhaps once best known for endearing himself to colleagues by making and serving waffles throughout late-night legislative debates, Loewen emerged as an unlikely catalyst that ultimately sparked the current leadership contest.
He and fellow government MLA Drew Barnes were both expelled from the party’s caucus soon after and have since sat as independent MLAs.“The night I got kicked out of caucus I had the best night’s sleep ever.”He says Kenney’s imminent departure helps the party come together after splintering over the past year.Loewen says he has no expectations ahead of Thursday’s results and hasn’t instructed his supporters on who else to vote for on the ranked-choice ballot.
