I’ve exceeded all my expectations – SA’s newly minted gold medallist Tatjana Schoenmaker
The country not only woke up to a gold medal but a new world record after Schoenmaker touched the wall in two minutes 18.95 seconds in the final at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.South Africa are joint in 23rd on the medal table, courtesy of Schoenmaker’ double and Bianca Buitendag’ silver in surfing on Tuesday.

“I am excited to go back home and celebrate this with my family. The focus was on my race and I had God’s plan just came through,” added Schonemaker, sporting golden cross earrings during the medal ceremony.
