HALIFAX—When all was said and done, after two days of answering questions at the inquiry into the, RCMP Chief Supt. Darren Campbell had a message for the families of the victims of those murders.

That emotional apology came at the end of a long day of cross-examination regarding Campbell’s previous testimonies. On Tuesday, he faced questions from lawyers representing the family members of victims. The topics ranged from information discrepancies during news conferences in the days immediately following the mass shooting, to resources and logistics, to his notes on a teleconference with RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki after the massacre, a conversation which promptedOver the course of his testimony, he outlined some of the RCMP failures in dealing with the deadly rampage.

He remained composed and stoic for two days of testimony, until MCC commissioner Michael MacDonald called for an end to the day and Campbell apologized to the victims’ families.
