Premier DanielAndrewsMP says he is not prepared to resign over the findings of the inquiry into Melbourne’s hotel quarantine program.

Premier Daniel Andrews says he is not prepared to resign over the findings of the inquiry into Melbourne’s hotel quarantine program. “I don't run from challenges. I don't run from problems. I'm not someone who quits to avoid doing the hard work that needs to be done,” he said. “I have a big job to do.

I'm dedicated to getting it done … I can barely describe to you how committed I am to that task.” When asked whether it would be appropriate for him to follow former Health Minister Jenny Mikakos and resign, Mr Andrews said it was her decision to make that move. “She issued a statement. That statement makes it very clear that she could no longer sit in the Cabinet. Any minister that comes to that conclusion has no choice but to resign,” he said.

The Pope ‘needs George Pell back’ to clean up the Vatican: Andrew Bolt | Sky News AustraliaThe Pope ‘needs George Pell back’ to clean up the Vatican: Andrew Bolt | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Andrew Bolt says despite not being offered a job, Cardinal George Pell should be given a role in “cleaning up the Vatican” amid the resignation of a senior Cardinal.\n\nCardinal Pell will return to the Vatican this week after nearly three years away following his imprisonment and then release from jail, having his convictions overturned on child sexual abuse charges.\n\nThe Cardinal – who was put in charge of cleaning up corruption in the Vatican - is apparently only returning to empty his Vatican apartment, but there is no return date to Australia.\n\nIt comes as Cardinal Angelo Becciu has been forced to resign after reportedly engaging in numerous dodgy financial deals.\n\nBecciu denies any wrongdoing.\n\n“Now it's Pell who is free and Becciu who has fallen,” Mr Bolt said.\n\n“I understand the Pope has not offered him a job, but the Pope's authority has been rocked by this scandal.\n\n“It would make sense to show he's serious about fighting corruption by giving Pell some role on cleaning up the Vatican where Pell still has a lot of prestige.\n\n“Pell returns to Rome and the Vatican and while he may not want a new job, his church needs him.\n\n“It is the time for all good men in the Vatican to step up. And Pell – for all the attempts to destroy him in the media in Australia and in Melbourne in particular – Pell is one of the good guys.”\n

Andrews will ‘throw anybody under the bus’ to avoid taking responsibility | Sky News AustraliaAndrews will ‘throw anybody under the bus’ to avoid taking responsibility | Sky News AustraliaPremier Daniel Andrews is only trying to “dig in and protect his job” as hundreds of Victorians have died from the coronavirus, with millions still locked down, according to state Opposition Leader Michael O’Brien.\n\nCounsel assisting the COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine Inquiry said on Monday the bungling of the hotel quarantine facilities led to all of Victoria’s 768 second wave deaths.\n\nMr O’Brien said the ensuing expansive lockdown did not need to be endured by Victorians, but it was “something we had to put up with only because of this government was completely incompetent”.\n\n“Incompetent to allow the second wave to occur through hotel quarantine, but then incompetent to keep us in the second wave through bungled contact tracing,” Mr O’Brien told Sky News.\n\n“It’s been a disaster from pillar to post”.\n\nThe inquiry heard evidence from Health Minister Jenny Mikakos on Wednesday, who after the premier fronted the inquiry and laid the blame on her feet, resigned on Saturday.\n\nMs Mikakos resigned to the governor rather than to Mr Andrews, and has indicated she disagreed with parts of the premier’s evidence.\n\n“It shows you how dysfunctional this government has become,” Mr O’Brien said.\n\n“Andrews is prepared to throw anybody else under a bus to avoid taking responsibility for what he’s done. Ultimately, he’s the premier, the buck stops with him.\n\n“This is the greatest public policy disaster in the state’s history.”\n\n
