A Montreal radio host has apologized for making light of a video of Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk rounding the bases in a game last Tuesday.
“The words were harsh. The sentiment was out of bounds and I deeply regret it. Period,” wrote Matthew Ross, who hosts the Weekend Game Plan, a TSN radio show in Montreal.a 23-year-old from Tijuana, Mexico, who was named to the All-Star team in 2022, and deeming the sprint from first base to home plate “embarrassing for the sport.”
In his apology, which was posted late Saturday night to the Weekend Game Plan’s Facebook page, Ross wrote that he viewed the clip posted by the Jays of Kirk rounding the bases and took it as a “tongue-in-cheek” video that was “poking fun.” He wrote that it made him think of the many people he had encountered who claim that baseball players are “not athletes.”
