A pileup crash on I-294 near Golf Road has created traffic backups, with Illinois State Police closing southbound lanes of the Tri-State Tollway.
GLENVIEW, Ill. -- One person was killed in a 10-vehicle-pileup on the Tri-State Tollway in the Glenview area that created a massive traffic backup Tuesday morning,
Illinois State Police said the crash occurred in the southbound lanes of I-294 near Central Road at about 6:02 a.m. Police said one person suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Chopper 7HD flew above the scene as emergency crews responded to the crash, which involved a semi-trailer, a car carier and several other vehicles. Police shut down all traffic in the southbound lanes starting at Willow Road for more than five hours before lanes were reopened. A state police accident investigation team is working to reconstruct the crash.
