Losing football games at home hits Brendan Gillanders hard.
So why the home woes? Why all the losses?
In 2017, the Redblacks got off to a horrible 1-6-1 start to their season. A strong finish — winning their final three games — got them into the playoffs. This season, the Redblacks trail the first-place Argos by four wins, second-place Montreal by two wins and third-place Hamilton by one. It’s possible a crossover team from the West could also work its way into the East playoff mix.
Somehow, there’s still a flicker of playoff hope alive. With six games remaining in their regular season, the Redblacks, with a 3-9 record, probably need to win at least five of them. It has to start Saturday in a home date against Toronto. That’s a lot of pressure compacted into a short period of time. But it’s a position the Redblacks have put themselves into.Article content
With the Gee-Gees, Gillanders was a three-time OUA all-star. He played his first two CFL seasons in Toronto, before joining his hometown team. While he has been used as a running back with the Redblacks — he has 32 catches and 60 carries — his most significant role has been on special teams and as a locker-room leader.Article content
