Contract negotiations are set to resume with striking International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union members (IBEW).
The labour disruption began on June 28, and according to Hydro Ottawa, an invitation was extended to IBEW on July 10 “to discuss the range of issues that they have made public.”“Although no deal was reached following last week’s negotiations, talks are set to resume this week,” Hydro Ottawa said in a statement.
Hydro Ottawa representatives will contact all impacted customers to book a new appointment for work to be completed. Hydro Ottawa workers have been on strike since June 28. In a virtual vote the night before, 74 per cent of the union members who participated voted to reject a four-year contract offer. Membership had voted down a previous contract offer, by 81 per cent, on May 31.
“I’ve said it before, it is not our intention to negotiate through the media or to politicize the collective bargaining process,” Bryce Conrad, Hydro Ottawa’s president and CEO, said in a previous news release. “We have extended an invitation to the IBEW representative directly to discuss their concerns.”Article content
