Hurricane Otis is bearing down on a stretch of the Mexican coast that has never seen a landfalling hurricane.

Hurricane Otis slammed into Acapulco early Wednesday as a Category 5 bringing dangerous winds and heavy rain.Otis formed Sunday evening in the eastern Pacific.Fast forward another 12 hours and Otis was a high-end tropical storm. Otis intensified its maximum sustained wind measurements by 80 miles per hour in 12 hours on Tuesday, which is nearly a new record for the Pacific .
