Category 1 Hurricane Lidia will make landfall sometime Tuesday evening near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, after it's expected to gain strength.

The National Parks Service closed roads in Death Valley in August 2023 due to flooding from the West Coast Category 1 Hurricane Hilary, later downgraded to a tropical storm, which affected Southern California and Mexico. Another Cat 1 storm - Hurricane Lidia - is headed for Mexico's west coast and is expected to make landfall with strengthened force sometime Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023.

Lidia was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane on Monday, and had maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour, but it was expected to strengthen through Oct. 10 as it approaches land.Lidia will produce strong winds of over 100 miles per hour - along with heavy rainfall. The conditions could lead to flooding in the Puerto Vallarta area beginning Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

A dangerous storm surge is also expected along the coast of west central Mexico as Lidia when it makes landfall in Mexico's Nayarit state.Loading ...
