Complex 'entirely too big,' council president says.
That’s Huntsville Council President John Meredith’s opinion of a proposed 900-unit apartment complex that could be built in his district.
“We have a glut on apartments at this point in time, and we shouldn’t be authorizing the creation of more,” he said following a vote on the layout of the complex during the Huntsville Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday.“I limit my take on that to District 5,” Meredith said. “I have not heard any of my colleagues echo my sentiment. I have not been told by them that they would like that to happen. When it’s in someone else’s district, it’s hands off.
The complex in question – Knox Creek Flats – is planned for a site north of U.S. 72 and east of Holladay Boulevard. Commercial development could be included on the site in out parcels along 72, city planner Kevin Bernard said.
