District 2 residents will decide who will replace Frances Akridge on the Huntsville City Council on Tuesday when they go to the polls to vote in a runoff between David Little and Bell Yell.

Little, a wealth management and financial planning advisor, and Yell, former Huntsville Utilities manager, received the most votes in a five-candidate field during the Aug. 23 municipal election.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will take his seat on the council on Nov. 7.What interested you in running for a position on the Huntsville City Council, and what experience would you bring to the position?Running for city council has been a dream of mine for many years. I am a lifelong resident of Huntsville and have a sincere passion for our city.

Council members should be good stewards of our taxpayer dollars and ensure we focus on the work of the city, by maintaining our infrastructure, supporting our public safety departments, maintaining a strong quality of life. Huntsville is the shining star of the state, and we want to keep it that way. We need to continue attracting businesses and a strong workforce to our area and make sure all residents are represented equally.

Our public safety departments need to keep up with our growth. Hiring and recruiting for both HPD and HFR should remain a priority and we need to ensure both are fully funded and supported in those efforts.
