Hundreds of cyclists to enjoy to sneak peek of Blackpool Illuminations ahead of massive switch-on party
In just a few weeks time Blackpool will once again be lit up with the iconic illuminations, as dozens of colourful displays line the promenade. The six-mile long installation has been running since 1879 and this year the they'll be extended for four months following a huge switch on event.
And while the big switch-on extravaganza will take place at the start September, those looking to get a sneak peek Blackpool Illuminations, will be able to - so long as they have a bike. For one night only on Tuesday August 29 the promenade will close to traffic for Ride The Lights, giving cyclists the chance to enjoy the illuminations three days before the switch on.
The promenade will be closed to traffic from 6.30pm until 10.30pm on Tuesday, 29 August, with the Ride The Lights event taking place from 7pm until 10pm to allow cyclists to get a sneak preview ahead of the big switch-on on Friday . Active Blackpool will also be in attendance, demonstrating balance bikes and adapted cycles, and providing cycle repair and information stalls on local bike initiatives.
