Humza Yousaf said 'of course I'm surprised' when he was asked about the arrest of SNP MSP Colin Beattie today.
Humza Yousaf has denied the SNP is being run in a "criminal way" after the party's treasurer was today arrested by Police Scotland.
Police Scotland launched an investigation in 2021 into SNP internal finances following several complaints from members of the public.Asked by the BBC if he could guarantee the party was not operating in a criminal way since be became leader, Yousaf said: "I certainly don't believe it is at all, no. But asked if he would take Beattie off Holyrood’s public audit committee, the First Minister said he would “consider that”.
Asked if he was surprised at Beattie’s arrest, Yousaf said: “Well, yes, of course I'm surprised. “One of my colleagues has been arrested. It's a very serious matter, indeed.”
