Glasgow MSP Humza Yousaf confirmed as First Minister of Scotland following Holyrood vote

Humza Yousaf has been confirmed as First Minister of Scotland this afternoon following a vote in Holyrood.

He will next be sworn in as First Minister at the Court of Session in Edinburgh tomorrow, and then on Thursday he will face rival party leaders in his opening First Minister's Questions. The SNP leader, who has been the Health Secretary since 2021, recorded a narrow victory over Kate Forbes once second preference votes were taken into account after Ash Regan was eliminated from the contest in the first round of voting.

Following his election as SNP leader, Mr Yousaf said: "It is hard for me to find the words to describe just how honoured I am to be entrusted by our membership of the SNP to be the party's next leader and to be on the cusp of being our country's next First Minister."
