The four-storey home in Glasgow's Park District, which boasts almost 12,000 sq ft of floor space, is open to offers in excess of £2.5million and has left house-hunters divided
A breathtaking nine-bedroom residence has hit the Glasgow property market , but there's a catch that's giving potential buyers pause for thought.
Estate agent Savills hails it as a "precious piece of architectural history" with "period details including iconic columns and marble staircase" in a Rightmove listing. It continues: "Internally the house retains a wealth of extraordinary period detail beginning with the Ionic columns on the ground floor which create a magnificent entrance and frame the broad marble staircase that rises up to the main reception rooms on the first floor.
The property has been lovingly restored and redeveloped since the 1990s, with one renovation recently seeing the addition of two "beautiful" kitchens and a "contemporary yet sympathetically designed bathroom" – one of the house's six bathrooms. The lower ground floor houses several versatile rooms and a lift provides access to each floor.
A third added: "It looks like an ex-convent and therefore gives me the willies." Meanwhile, a fourth person joked about the excessive space and the unwelcome convent-like atmosphere, saying: "I'm fond of space too but there's too much of it. But the convent vibes are the worst part. I'd feel like I was back in school."
