Huberdeau's opening night with Flames a family affair

Jonathan Huberdeau won’t be the only member of his family taking to the ice on opening night at the Dome.

“Should be a lot of fun,” continued the veteran NHL forward. “A lot of family and friends in attendance, too. So that’s going to be exciting.”

“I said, ‘Only the first game,’” said Huberdeau of footing the bill. “I said, ‘After that, you guys are on your own.’”“My dad got here , and he’s like, ‘I’m so nervous,’” said Huberdeau, a 29-year-old native of Saint-Jérome, Que. “I’m not that nervous, but I feel like he’s more nervous than me. He’s just kind of excited.

“Now she’s been asking me every year. So then when I got traded here, she’s like, ‘You could ask if I can sing.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s a good idea.’ The first game, she’s here, so I might as well ask. And the Flames were great about it — they said, ‘Yes’.
