The next time you think about Huawei, it may not be for a smartphone, smartwatch, or notebook. This as the Chinese company continues to branch out into new industries, collaborating with Chery Auto on an upcoming electric vehicle called the Luxeed S7 ., the Luxeed S7 is set to debut in its native China sometime in November, with the pair looking to make an impact within the country’s already competitive EV market.
What aspects he’s referring to remains unclear, but it looks like Huawei and Chery want this new EV to be“Chery is an automotive powerhouse and Huawei’s strongest partner in developing smart cars so far,” highlighted Gao Shen, an independent analyst in Shanghai, to the SCMP. “High hopes have been pinned on Luxeed because of the marriage between Huawei’s technological clout and Chery’s manufacturing heft,” they added.
This partnership with Chery, however, looks to be far larger in scale, although precise expected shipping numbers or cost for the Luxeed S7 have not come to the fore yet. With Chery featuring a presence in South Africa, there may be a chance that the new EV lands locally too, but there has been no confirmation of such at this stage.
