How Wike defeated Awara in Amaechi’s LGA

Incumbent governor and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Nyesom Wike, has defeated Biokpomabo Awara in Ikwere Local Government Areas.

Ikwere is the LGA of the immediate past Governor of the State and Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi. Following the non-participation of the All Progressives Congress in the elections in Rivers State, Amaechi had thrown his weight behind Awara, and vowed that Wike must be defeated. However, as results are being announced at the collation centre in Port Harcourt, the State capital, the PDP polled 14,938 while the AAC got 5,660 in Ikwere LGA where the Minister hails from. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended collation till 3pm.
