“We killed the opposition on the second stint – in tyre management,” said Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe technical director Pascal Vasselon. “That is really where we created a big, big gap.” Ferrari chose not to talk to the media after the race to confirm what it had used and to explain why, but it appeared that it knew it couldn’t beat Toyota in a straight fight and went creative to mix things up.
