How to reset your age and get away with it, like me 🎂 RebeccaCNReid for ipaperviews

The twilight years of my twenties were primarily spent sitting inside my flat, panicking if I had a sore throat, bleaching my Waitrose delivery and occasionally meeting a friend to sit on an outdoor bench Historically, they’ve used a quirky system where you’re one when you’re born and then gain a year every New Year’s Day . Which means that if you’re born on New Year’s Eve, you’re regarded as being two years old, when in reality you’re not even a week old.

for the more conventional system we follow, meaning that people all over South Korea will be a year younger than they were before. Coincidentally, I also decided that this year I would be doing away with the traditional ageing system: I will be turning 30 at the end of December, regardless of the actual number on my birth certificate.and I don’t judge anyone who knocks a few years off. But my choice to do so is about more than a lack of appetite for ageing. It’s about reparations for the time that was lost to the pandemic. A tax rebate on lost life, if you will.

The twilight years of my twenties were primarily spent sitting inside my flat, panicking if I had a sore throat, and occasionally meeting a friend to sit on an outdoor bench if I was feeling really wild. By rights, it should have been the year where every weekend was someone’s 30th. Obviously, I would have complained non-stop about the expense, but that’s par for the course.

There are work meetings which didn’t happen, professional friendships I never made, about 1,500 Pret sandwiches I didn’t eat. There’s a whole parallel universe where Covid didn’t happen and I’ve got memories, stories, in-jokes, and anecdotes which don’t exist now.
