How to prevent misleading advertisements by stem cell clinics in Texas | Opinion
Stem cell clinical advertisements fail to disclose potential harmful consequences from different treatments such as infections, blindness and even death, our columnists argue.Stem cells are not a cure-all; they do not cure COVID-19, autism, arthritis or other neurological conditions. But you might believe that they do if you’ve seen some of the misleading advertising available these days.
These ads often provide the reader with misleading information that makes it difficult for patients to discriminate between accepted and proven treatments as opposed to experimental procedures. Some less scrupulous clinics promote stem cell interventions by only referencing certain aspects of biomedical research. Most leave out information about the risks involved.
The stem cell registry should be changed to mandate clinics to report all side effects from stem cell treatments.
