With the sun rays heating up the Mother City, here are some valuable tips to help you enjoy the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) and surrounding sites in our beautiful City:

Take a hike, but don’t go on your own. Walk in a group of at least four people or more. For a light walk, take the scenic Constantia Nek trail or for something more challenging tackle the world-class Lions Head.Avoid carrying valuables as far as possible – cash, cameras, etc.Emergency numbers: TMNP number 0861-106-417/ SAPS 10111. Wilderness Search and Rescue Number 021 937 0300 or dial 112.

Take plenty of water with you – and remember your dogs! Many people forget to bring extra water for their four-legged friends when taking a walk in the mountains. Please remember also to bring along poo bags this will keep the trails clean for all mountain users. Please note that My Activity Permits and My Green Cards can be purchased from the Tokai Sales Office.

Programme the TMNP emergency phone numbers onto your cell phone and make sure someone at home knows where you are. Use this number if you get stuck, lost or injured. Don’t throw your cigarette butts out of your car window – Cape Town summers are often dry and windy and it takes just one spark to start a devastating fire – to animals, plants and neighbouring communities.Lastly, remember to enjoy the park the way it is meant to be enjoyed – please pick up your litter and discard it in the surrounding bins or at home.
