is rising rapidly, as the price tag on the cheapest butter, cheese and packets of a dozen eggs has reached past £2 a go, analysis shows.
The price of a 250g packet of butter has risen to £1.99 at Tesco, with similar prices found at rivals Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda. This is up from £1.48 in April 2021, an increase of more than 33 per cent over the course of 17 months. Meanwhile, on Tesco’s online delivery website a packet of 12 of the supermarket’s own-brand, medium eggs is sitting at £2.00, up from £1.75 in October 2021. The same quantity of large eggs costs £2.30, up from £2.10 in October 2021.
The price of cheese appears to have grown the quickest: a 400g packet of mild cheddar cheese sells for £2.85 at Tesco, up from £2.10 in February 2022.
