The 2.5-liter engine is back, but can this new Impreza live up to the RS name?
at the 2022 Los Angeles auto show, one with an RS model in the lineup, rally racing and tuning enthusiasts pricked up their ears. This isn't the first time the Japanese brand's entry-level offering has been hotted up with a sportier RS trim level.
The new Impreza RS doesn't get a manual gearbox option. Ironically, the brand did away with the lineup's stick-shift for the new generation, which means the only transmission offered is a continuously variable automatic . Subaru will tell you the car comes with an"eight-speed manual mode," and even equips the RS with steering wheel paddle shifters, but make no mistake, it's a CVT.
The older Impreza is equipped with standard fog lights , a rear wing, upsized 16-inch wheels, a larger radiator opening, and a hood with both a scoop and vents. Originally, 2.5 RS models were offered in two-door coupe and four-door sedan models, but after 2000 it only came as a sedan in the states.
