How some youth political structures are engaging their peers on elections

On Sunday, City Press reported that three-quarters of young voters have “disappeared” due to a record drop of 75% among voters younger than 20 on the electoral roll, coupled with sharp declines in the number of voters between the ages of 20 and 30.With this in mind, City Press spoke to some of the country’s youth leagues and movements to ask them how they envisage the upcoming polls will go, especially with regard to their peers.

“Young people must have a voice in the leadership of the country to inject new ideas, but, most importantly, to fast-track progress into a youth-friendly outcome.”EFF Student Command president Mandla Shikwambana said that the party had done extensive work to ensure that students could register to vote online.

The DA Student Organisation’s national spokesperson, Sakhile Mngadi , said the party was focusing on developing youth leadership to make sure that young people are represented:
