If you happen to have browsed the H&M website recently, you’ll certainly know all about sad beige clothes: there are currently 538 beige items for sale in their kids section on the site: ranging from beige knitted onesies to beige muslin scarves.
If you have chosen to adopt the beige trend for your own children, it’s highly likely you don’t find it sad in the slightest. Many think it’s actually extremely practical. One mum, Claire from Bath, tells me that as she’s had three children it has made life easier, adding: “It makes hand-me-downs so straightforward – there are no issues with blues, pinks or florals. Plus, everything matches.”
Is there any real benefit to neutral dressing and neutral play areas, other than being particularly Instagram-friendly? While some parents like the sense of calm it brings, other social media users have pointed out that children need colour in order to learn and develop.Amanda Gummer, a neuropsychologist and children’s play expert, said there isn’t evidence that colourless toys stunt developmental milestones.
