Starting pitcher Jack Leiter throws a pitch in the second inning as the Frisco Rough Riders hosted the Arkansas Travelers in a Double A baseball game in at Riders Field in Frisco on Saturday , April 9, 2022.Former pitcher and MLB Network analyst Al Leiter, father of top Rangers’ pitching prospect Jack Leiter,. Here are some highlights:

What convinced you that the Rangers were a good landing spot for Jack given the team’s recent history?“100%, Chris Young. I’ve known Jon Daniels for years. I know he’s from New York, and I know he’s a great baseball executive. But when I was able to sit down [with Young] ... he was a separator for me.

“Another one is the stadium. I think I had one good game when I went into Texas. ... The stadium across the street from the new one now had a big wind tunnel to right field. I didn’t think it was a great place to pitch, to be honest. So, now with the new stadium it’s just gorgeous and that fixed that problem. You’re pitching indoors.

“But, yeah, I’m a believer. And I hope the Ranger fans are believing, too. I know sometimes it’s hard to see the long-term of it when there’s road blocks in the short-term.”“I prefer to be in the background 100%. I know why sometimes people reach out to me because of what I did as a player, but this is all dad. I enjoy it. Watching Jack do his thing, I can’t express it any other way, it’s just an absolute joy.
