By Staff ReporterA former Orlando Pirates player who played just eight games for the club in the year he spent with them has disclosed how he was then paid the equivalent of R1,86 million to terminate his contract.
Uganda midfielder Yasser Mugerwa joined Pirates on a three-year deal from Uganda Revenue Authority FC in July 2015 but was released after just a season having turned down a loan offer to Chippa United and the then Mpumalanga Black Aces. After his departure from Pirates, he went on to play in Ethiopia for five years before returning home last year to join Kampala Capital City Authority where he is also now dealing with issues to do with terminating his contract.
"I don’t remember well the amount, but I had a three-year contract with Pirates, and I just played one year so I had another two years remaining. "We sat down with them, and they paid out my signing-on fees," says Mugerwa in a Youtube programme named Pitchside. "In the first place they paid USD50 000 for the signing on fees, I had a balance of USD50 000 which they cleared and then they paid the salary of one year."So, you can do the mathematics there. It was USD5 000 times 12 then plus USD50 000 ," he discloses six years after his departure from Pirates."Players must always consult and read into the contracts. When you are signing contracts, you have to be with someone who understands what is in the contract. Don’t go alone.
