As Sheen was performing he’d realize he was pulling in strains from other performances and performers: Columbo,But that worked for the character, these intentional references to other performances of power in order, all contributing to a domineering patois. “He’s touching certain buttons. And he wants people to think he’s ridiculous and absurd, because then people underestimate him. That’s one of his big weapons,” Sheen said.
