Mamelodi Sundowns' dominance in South Africa's DStv Premiership was confirmed on Monday after the club was officially handed the domestic league trophy for a record 13th time and a record-extending fifth occasion in a row.

In fact, only four clubs from the world's ten highest-ranked leagues – namely the Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Primeira Liga, Eredivisie, Brasileirão, Primera División and Premier Liga – have enjoyed longer streaks as champions. Among these, Bayern Munich's current 10-season stranglehold of the German Bundesliga is the longest while Juventus previously won nine consecutive Serie A titles in Italy.
Olympique Lyonnais won seven in a row in the French Ligue 1 during the early-to-mid-2000s while Spartak Moscow were Russia's best for six seasons on either side of the turn of the century.
