I didn’t know this at the time, but Colwin actually wasn’t best known for her fiction.
As any attendee at the semi-regular dinner parties I would throw when I first moved to New York can probably attest, I used to be an extremely anxious cook. I’d invite 12 people over for a relaxed meal then thoroughly exhaust myself trying way too hard to execute some fancy NYT Cooking recipe that never turned out to be half as good as a hastily ordered Domino’s pie would have been.
