One penguin, named Dora, is one of the youngest and bravest penguins to explore the Houston Zoo's new,Staff at the zoo recently posted a short video of its latest exhibit on social media, allowing people to get a glimpse of Dora and her new habitat ahead of the exhibit's public unveiling and grand opening Friday.Senior penguin keeper Amanda Perry said Dora"is definitely a keeper, and I'm sure will be a guest favorite very soon.
The zoo currently has 10 of the flightless, black and white birds, in hopes they will soon mate and become parents. Although the exhibit is named for the Galápagos Islands and the Galápagos penguins that live there, the 10 penguins who will live in Houston's new exhibit didn't actually come from the island, as the Galápagos are the most endangered penguin species in the world.
The exhibit, which cost $70 million to create, can be found just inside the zoo entrance and will open to the public Friday.
