Houston's public housing waitlist is opening after a yearslong hiatus. Here's when and how to apply.

The Houston Housing Authority's waiting list will reopen to applicants Sunday, Jan. 15, at noon. It will remain open for a month and close for new applicants on Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. Eligible low-income households, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities can apply online atThe housing authority is reopening applications because it has almost cleared the waiting list for certain properties.
While there are still roughly 9,800 households on the waiting list for public housing, some public housing developments have longer waiting lists than others. That's because applicants were told to select three public housing sites based on their location preference, and people tended to choose newly renovated or acquired public housing locations over older units, said the Houston Housing Authority.
