Judge Ramona Franklin kept Galib Chowdhury's bond at $125,000 at the Houston police...

made his first full court appearance since his arrest on suspicion of shooting his wife at their northwest Houston apartment.

The officer appeared in court Wednesday in a suit and tie rather than a jail jumpsuit because he had secured his release after posting bail, according to his attorney, Nicole DeBorde Hochglaube. Galib Chowdhury, left, leaves after an appearance in the Harris County 338th Criminal District Court on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in Houston. Chowdhury, who was relieved of duty as a Houston Police Department officer, is accused of shooting his wife in the face.Investigators, however, said they did not find any evidence supporting Chowdhury's claim a break-in had taken place.

That's in part because the chief must provide an officer 48 hours' notice before officially terminating his or her employment if they have been charged with a crime, according to Doug Griffith, president of the Houston Police Officers Union.Representatives with the police department Wednesday said they had no update to provide on whether the officer remained a city employee.
