LJ Cryer, a star out of Morton Ranch, defends against Yates’ Jabraylon Vaughn during a game in 2019.Cryer, one of the top players available in the college basketball transfer portal, said Sunday he has committed to the University of Houston.“At the end of the day it’s home,” Cryer said in an interview with the Houston Chronicle. “It doesn’t get any better than playing for your hometown.

A staple in Baylor’s backcourt the past two seasons, Cryer was impact on both ends with an ability to play defense and knock down 3-pointers. He averaged 15 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from 3-point range last season. As a freshman, Cryer was part of Baylor’s championship team that beat the Cougars in the national semifinals.

Recently, Cryer has expressed interest in playing some point guard at his next school. The Cougars currently have Jamal Shead, who has entered the NBA draft but is also expected to return.
