A ninth round of voting for speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives looked set to start Thursday after the chamber failed to select a speaker in votes held earlier in the day and in the prior two days. Republican Rep.

The House must kick off the new congressional session with the election of a speaker, and it's required to keep voting until one is chosen. It last needed nine rounds of voting for a speaker election in 1923.
