Local volunteers cleared more than 10-tons of waste from Harrisburg neighborhoods last year. This will be the 2nd year for the initiative.
City councilman Ralph Rodriguez and Dave West, Director, Harrisburg Public Works announced the return of Hot Spot Saturdays this summer in efforts to clean up illegal dumping sites throughout the city of Harrisburg.That’s what Harrisburg City Councilman Ralph Rodriguez said Wednesday, as he announced details for the second year of a “Hot Spot Saturdays” initiative to reduce illegal dumping in neighborhoods.
The annual event gives volunteers the opportunity to work together to clear sites known for illegal dumping throughout the city. The initiative spans five days throughout the summer beginning June 17 at Camp Curtin in uptown between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Check in begins at 9:45 a.m. for all of the locations.
West said city has a dozen cameras that are placed at high-volume, known dumping sites throughout Harrisburg. The cameras are moved periodically to other locations to help identify suspects. If perpetrators are captured on camera, West said the information is turned over to the Harrisburg Police Bureau.was hired in October to serve as the new environmental enforcement officer, leading the efforts to catch and prosecute those dumping garbage illegally.
