Liko just hit a big milestone for every Pokémon Trainer in the latest episode of Pokémon Horizons, but for some reason it occurred offscreen.
The new Pokémon Horizons anime has been off to a great start, and Liko's journey as a Pokémon Trainer is progressing very nicely. However, one major moment for her was inexplicably made to occur offscreen, depriving viewers of what could've been a very awesome moment.
In episode 5 of Pokémon Horizons, The Explorers, led by Amethio, make their move, attempting to secure Pokémon's new heroine Liko and her pendant for reasons that still remain a secret. The circumstances of the attack meant that Liko was left on her own, with only Sprigatito to protect her. Liko and Sprigatito came face to face with Conia, Amethio's follower, who immediately challenged the pair to a battle with her Golduck.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Liko Wins Her First Pokémon Battle... Offscreen The episode cuts back to the other confrontation occurring on the beach near the airship, where Amethio and Zir are doing battle with members of the airship crew, and actually winning. Even Pokémon's cool new hero Professor Friede and his Charizard got distracted and hit by an attack.
Prior to this, the episode had been doing a very good job of showing how tense one's first real high-stakes Pokémon battle would be. Both Roy and Liko were shaking with nerves, and Sprigatito gently placed its paws on Liko's hands to stop the trembling just before Conia showed up. Liko and Sprigatito are becoming a team, and it would've been excellent to see that put to the test here in battle.
