Homeless man punches and shoves straphanger onto subway tracks in Brooklyn, suspect in custody: NYPD

According to police sources, the incident occurred at the 25 Street Station in Sunset Park at 10:05 a.m. when a 25-year-old homeless man punched a 54-year-old man in the head before shoving him onto the tracks of a southbound R train before fleeing the scene.

The victim was aided by a quick-thinking MTA worker who managed to pull him back onto the platform before a train rolled into the station. The man was treated at the scene by EMS and although shaken up is expected to recover. Eagle-eyed NYPD officers caught up with the suspect one stop away at the 36 Street Station on the Northbound bound platform and took the man into custody for the alleged, near-deadly assault.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, the suspect was not only undomiciled but also deeply emotionally disturbed. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital for a psychological evaluation where he is expected to be charged in the coming hours.
