Many people mistakenly assume that washing machines are self-cleaning - but this is not the case.
Washing machines are one of the most widely-used household appliances - but many people aren't giving them a good clean often enough.
And one home expert says cleaning out your machine is one job that should never be overlooked, as not only can a dirty machine ruin your clothes - it's also likely to break far easier. There are many things that can cause bacteria growth such as a moist environment, food residue, pet hair, faecal matter, and detergent residue. All of these things can be left behind in your washing machine after a cycle.
You should also aim to deep clean your washing machine roughly once each month. If you are regularly washing particularly dirty items or if you find that you use the washing machine more than average, you may need to deep clean it more frequently.
