Home Affairs offices will be open until 18:00 from 10th December until 20th December.
These extended operating hours have been implemented so that citizens can get their identity documents more easily before travelling this festive season. From the 10th to 20th December, locals can visit Home Affairs offices until 18:00 instead of the usual 16:00 closing time. This as the department is extending its operating hours for the first half of the month.
The department added that it will be introducing dedicated counters in larger offices where citizens can more easily collect their Smart ID cards and passports. If you can’t book an appointment, Home Affairs says that it will accept walk-ins but we really recommend you try to book an appointment first and only lean on this for emergencies.
The department is working to move many of these processes online in something it’s calling Home Affairs @ Home. This is reportedly an arduous process so for now citizens will need to stand in lines clutching their passport photos praying that the system stays online until they get to the front of the queue.
