You could pay around £13 per person, per night - quickly adding up if you are travelling in a group or staying for a few nights
Hundreds of thousands of tourists will descend upon Paris in July as the 33rd Olympic games take place this Summer. With 10 million tickets on sale, it is estimated that around half a million eager sports fans will be travelling to the French capital to support their respective nations, in the same year that City Hall in Paris decided to raise tourist tax by as much as 260% for certain accommodations.
This will usually be collected at the check-in desk upon arrival to your accommodation or location – be wary of scams where fake travel agencies will ask for the tax before even stepping foot on your flight to the French capital. Whilst the majority of tourists travelling to the French capital this summer will likely be staying in hotels and serviced apartments, the rate of taxation has gone up by almost triple, for the majority of these:
To put this into perspective, there has been a 1019% increase in searches for ‘Venice tourist tax’ on Google since last year, with 6.6k searches in April alone, after the recent announcement that the Italian city would be raising its tax bracket for day trippers to €5 . The government has estimated the new tax will raise €423m , which will be used to fund necessary public transport during the games that will undoubtedly come under some strain with the added number of tourists.
