Exclusive: My Adventures With Superman executive producer Brendan Clogher reveals what inspired them to hold off on Lex Luthor for other villains.
My Adventures With Superman executive producer Brendan Clogher explains why they decided to hold off on Lex Luthor as the main villain in season one. The new animated series follows Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen during their early days at the Daily Planet as interns. Clark is also in the early days of becoming Superman, trying to balance both lives and keep his heroics under wraps. The series brings in classic Superman characters but introduces them in new ways.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant about My Adventures With Superman, Clogher revealed what inspired them to wait to introduce Superman's most infamous nemesis, Lex Luthor. He explained how this decision pushed them to think outside the box. Clogher also teased their surprising takes on villains in the new series.
Brendan Clogher: In some of the other interviews, we brought [up] the fact that execs give us good notes, which is nice. And one of the very early ones was we were sort of told to hold off on Lex Luthor for a bit.
Why it Makes Sense to Wait on Lex Luthor for My Adventures With Superman A Superman series without Lex Luthor is hard to imagine, but it seems the first season of My Adventures With Superman will be exactly that. However, holding off on Superman's greatest nemesis may be the best decision for the animated series because it explores the early days of the hero.
My Adventures With Superman's first season is able to focus on Clark, Lois, and Jimmy as their friendship develops, they take the first step in their careers, and Clark learns to be a hero. If Lex Luthor were to be introduced in the first season, that would likely overtake every other antagonist and relationship in My Adventures With Superman. By waiting to bring in Lex Luthor, the writers and producers can build out the world, the dynamic between the trio, and Superman as a hero.
