Hockey Canada has paid out $7.6 million in settlements since 1989
The House of Commons heritage committee is meeting this week to hear from witnesses about the allegations that a group of hockey players, including members of Canada’s world junior hockey team, sexually assaulted a woman in London, Ont. in 2018.
In a step that’s not usually taken during appearances in front of Parliamentary committees, the witnesses were sworn in, swearing the evidence they’re giving is truthful. He said the organization “used the National Equity Fund because… there were some questions with respect to coverage and we were concerned that it would take months and maybe years to clarify that.”Article content
Asked by NDP MP Peter Julian whether Hockey Canada will lift non-disclosure agreements for any victims who wish to come forward and speak about their experience, Smith indicated the league would. He said the organization “got some advice” in the past month about the “evolution” of NDAs.
